Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium funding is received for each child who currently receives a Free School Meal or who has received Free School Meals at any time in the last six years. This equates to 42% (81 children) of our school population. We review and adapt our Pupil Premium Strategy each term to meet the ongoing needs of these children and based on the effectiveness of each intervention.

There are many barriers to learning and these include attendance, behaviour, support from home and finance. The following have been agreed by Governors as our key areas of focus.

Pupil Premium Strategy:

  • Children at risk of not achieving age expectations at the end of KS2.
  • Children not on track to be at age expectations in phonics and reading at the end of KS1.
  • Children at risk of low attendance.
  • Children requiring additional pastoral support including children in need or subject to child protection plans.
  • Ensuring all children can go on all educational visits including residentials.

The funding is therefore used to support children academically, socially and pastorally. The governors play a vital role in monitoring the effectiveness of the Pupil Premium Strategy. They ensure that the school identifies all Pupil Premium children and the needs and barriers they face. They liaise closely with the school through termly Resources Committee meetings where they oversee the spending of this funding.  In the SEC Committee they check if it is having an impact through analysing both in school and national assessment data.

The school uses its Pupil Premium to improve attendance and punctuality, remove barriers and close the gap in academic attainment. In order to verify the effective use of this grant, the school held a successful Pupil Premium Audit in Autumn 2017.
